The Story Behind the Name

grill-logo

The rich sporting history associated with the name Ancil Hoffman may have lost some luster over the decades. The revitalization of the food and beverage operations at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course was completed in 2010 focusing on the preservation of this unique part of Sacramento sporting history.

Ancil Hoffman, in addition to being a member of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Sacramento, played an important role in the sport of boxing in the U.S. For many years, prior to his time as a county supervisor, Ancil Hoffman was the manager and trainer of renowned heavyweight champion Max Baer. The Hoffman family has donated photos and memorabilia of Ancil during his years with Max Baer. CourseCo remains committed to featuring that history by researching archives for potential new additions to the storied legacy of the man, Ancil Hoffman.

Take some time to familiarize yourself with the various historical pictures & stories featured inside The Main Event Bar & Grill.
