Derek Smith is the Food & Beverage General Manager at both Cherry Island and Ancil Hoffman Golf Courses. Derek started with Empire Golf as the restaurant manager at Cherry Island in August 2006. When Empire Golf was awarded the food and beverage operations contract at Ancil Hoffman in December 2009, Derek was promoted to General Manager of F&B operations overseeing both courses. Derek brings a wealth of experience in restaurant and banquet operations and has worked in the hospitality industry for most of his career. Before working for Empire Golf, Derek served as Food & Beverage Director at the Davis Indoor Sports Center from Aug 1999 until March 2006.

Derek considers himself a self proclaimed "Coffee Guru," having managed several coffee shops throughout the years, working as a coffee roaster for several years and most recently staying at a working coffee farm in Boquete Panama for two weeks during the beginning of harvest season.

 Derek enjoys snow skiing, golfing, mountain biking, camping, gardening; basically anything outdoors. He lives in Sacramento with his wife Julia.
